Every site is in-progress, some more so than others. Alexander Lyman Design is a new company and will have its own stories to tell.
With those stories there will also be anecdotes from my history, probably with an unhealthy dose of “get off my lawn” and “when I was a boy,” and more contemporary observations about the current and future state of design.
Everything has changed since I started working as a computer graphic designer.
When I started, color monitors were just becoming a thing. I remember when email first became available at my university and when AOL and CompuServe were the gateways to the World Wide Web. I used some of the first color printers and copiers as they came into the corporate mainstream. I was a designer at the birth of desktop publishing, web publishing, database back-ends, eCommerce, 3d animated television shows, the digital camera, several different design disciplines, too many design apps to count, the gig economy, and now AI.
There is just SO MUCH to talk about. Some won’t be strictly relevant to today’s environment, but perhaps some of it will be useful to someone.
